“Sometimes nothing will do but a floral dress” | As seen in The Telegraph
“A good floral pattern can soften the face, cast a flattering light and sweep away the need to overthink accessories”, says Emily Cronin, Senior Fashion Editor at The Telegraph. With Spring officially sprung (despite the weather apparently having other plans) like clockwork, fashion’s attention has once again turned its head to floral dresses. In fact, spring or no, Cronin explains that “Floral dresses were among the few fashion items whose sales held steady from lockdown to lockdown, in part because they are so easy to wear.”

In her piece ‘Have we reached peak floral midi dress?’, Cronin features ME+EM’s Daisy Print Tiered Maxi Dress.
As “easy to wear” as it comes, this is crafted from breathable cotton touch fabric with a bespoke floral print designed in our London studio. It cleverly incorporates a combination of light and dark tones so that it works trans-seasonally.

Although not technically a midi, this dress features our signature dipped hemline that rises shorter at the front to expose the ankles and visually elongate the legs. It also has a drawcord waist that means it can be worn loose and relaxed or cinched, making this AM-PM ready. Elasticated cuffs with feminine frills meanwhile, allow you to wear the sleeves full-length or pulled up the arm for a more casual feel, whilst an invisible zip neckline can be done up high at work and worn low for drinks afterwards.
Cronin writes, “The fact is that sometimes nothing will do but a floral dress. Especially if you believe in the therapeutic effects of fashion – that what you wear can lift your mood.”

With the modern woman in mind, all of our floral dresses have been designed with a classic, yet contemporary feel.
“The key to keeping the look from feeling too chintzy (unless that’s what you’re going for) is to choose a print with one or two dominant colours”, Cronin explains. Our Silk Cotton Silhouette Floral Dress, for instance, combines soft white and sunflower yellow in a bold floral pattern for a vibrant, mood-boosting piece that feels fresh and optimistic.
“Flowery frocks are pretty, effortless and ubiquitous”, concludes Cronin, providing a sound argument for why we may never, in fact, reach “peak floral midi dress.”
