The allure of the broderie blouse | As seen in The Times


In her article, ‘I am addicted to slightly frilly blouses’, Fashion Director of The Times Anna Murphy delves into her penchant for the feminine blouses that she returns to time and again, “whatever the season.” She says, “there must be something very special about them. And if I – blousophile that I am – am telling you they are very special, you need to listen to me.”

Crafted from lightweight, semi-sheer cotton, the fabric has been laundered for a more relaxed look and is machine washable, so very easy to care for. “The cotton is so light and soft, and it keeps me covered up, but the neck can be undone so as to reveal a flattering sliver of décolletage and a couple of my favourite chains,” says Murphy.

Elegant broderie trims at the cuffs, button placket and neckline, meanwhile lend a feminine finish to the blouse that works well when layered under your favourite knitwear and jackets.

Indeed, Murphy says, “I love mine under a knitted tank top in medium temperatures, the pretty puff detailing on the sleeve thus revealed” and “under a big jumper when it’s cold, the broderie collar and cuffs just peeping out.”
