Wardrobe Heroes | Wide-Leg Trousers

A wide-leg trouser forms a crucial part of my everyday uniform. And an everyday uniform forms a crucial part in helping me tackle an incredibly hectic schedule: it means I don’t have to spend time in the morning worrying about what to wear, I can just pick a few pieces from my wardrobe and go. It’s a sartorial cheat sheet, if you will.  
 
Everyone has their perfect trouser shape and a wide-leg is mine. I’m obsessed with leg elongation and wide-leg trousers are perfect for that, especially when they’re high-waisted. They also create a silhouette that feels effortless and modern and slightly masculine, which speaks to my personal style. There’s a myth that petite women can’t wear wide-leg trousers but with a high waist (particularly one with an adjuster, which many of ours have) and deep hems that can be taken up without disrupting the shape, they can be super flattering and visually add inches to your height.
 

MY HERO TROUSER


Exaggerated silhouettes are big this season (pun intended).

The wider the better when it comes to trousers, which is partly why this Super Wide-Leg Soft Twill Trouser has become my hero trouser of the season. The other reason is that it’s a perfect foundation piece, something that will go with everything in my wardrobe now and through the seasons. For now, it’s our Base Layering Vest and Relaxed Cotton Stripe Casual Shirt. I’m a fan of boyish styling, so this trend of layering a tank under a shirt is perfect for me.

Taking my favourite silhouette into casual dressing, wide-leg denim is always flattering and feels slouchy like denim should but not shapeless.

Our Ultimate Wide-Leg Jean in a barely-there soft lemon wash differentiates it from classic denim but it still feels incredibly comfortable for long days. For something more authentic, our sun-bleached blue wash has served as an excellent work-to-weekend style solution.

This sun yellow is empowering, uplifting and actually very easy to style with classics like a white shirt and check blazer.

More often than not I’ll pair whatever trouser I’m wearing with trainers; they help make a tailored outfit feel less corporate. Our brand-new Canvas Plimsoll is perfect for achieving a cool, slouchy feel. If trainers just aren’t appropriate, then I’ll opt for a classic loafer instead (always something flat for practicality).
