RESPONSIBLE STYLE, NOW AND FOREVER

SUSTAINABILITY

ME+EM was founded on four key pillars: flattering, functional, forever and fair. As much as these pillars guide every aspect of our collections, they also inspire our approach to responsibility and sustainability.

We have high aspirations for what we want to achieve as a brand, and our sustainability purpose informs exactly how we achieve those - from the materials we source to how we transport our collections.

Led by our dedicated in-house sustainability team, we collaborate with leading industry expert organisations to inform our environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework, as well as our sustainability pillars: Product, People, Planet + Community.

In recognition of our sustainability commitments and actions, in 2025 ME+EM were proud to be certified by Positive Luxury, an ever-evolving mark of our standards.

1 | PRODUCT

Quality and longevity are at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to use only the highest quality materials, thoughtfully selected to create timeless pieces made to last.

As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible design, we’re working to increase the use of certified materials across our collections. These certifications not only ensure traceability, but also support elevated social and environmental standards:

The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) and Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) describe and independently certify animal welfare and land management practices in wool, mohair and alpaca fibre production and track the certified material from farm to final product. ME+EM is RWS, RMS and RAS certified, Control Union CB-CUC-897092. Only the products which carry the RWS, RMS and RAS labels and claims are certified.

The Good Cashmere Standard® aims to improve the welfare of cashmere goats, the working conditions of herders and the local environment. GCS cashmere is primarily sourced from Inner Mongolia, which has traditionally produced cashmere for generations. The standard aims to positively contribute to the lives of the farmers, their families and their communities by providing a stable and fair source of income, while also aiming to protect and regenerate the grasslands that have been put at risk by intensive cashmere production.

Textile Exchange is a global non-profit driving beneficial impacts on climate and nature across the fashion, textile, and apparel industry. ME+EM is a part of the growing number of brands and suppliers that are working to source materials that have a lower impact on our ecosystems and communities, benefiting soil health, water and biodiversity.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose and TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibres are made from wood, a natural and renewable raw material carefully sourced from responsibly managed forests. The wood taken from nature is purposefully balanced with forest growth rates, to ensure the continued availability of this valuable resource. Additionally, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are produced in a closed loop process which recovers 99.8% of the solvent – resulting in close-to-zero wastage.

LENZING™, ECOVERO™ and TENCEL™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.

At ME+EM, our membership of Leather Working Group highlights our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement in leather manufacturing. LWG is a not-for-profit multi-stakeholder organisation committed to reducing the environmental impact of leather manufacturing and we aim to purchase 100% of our leather from leather manufacturers certified against the LWG Standard.

We tirelessly collaborate with our suppliers to ensure our values are upheld throughout our supply chain. This is communicated through a comprehensive code of conduct, preferred material guidelines and sourcing policies.  Notably these include:

+ Animal welfare (our wool is mulesing-free and our leather is only ever obtained as a by-product to the food industry)

+ Restricted substances (Supplier must be compliant with REACH and AFIRM)

+ Responsible cotton sourcing (we do not permit cotton sourced from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Xinjiang)

2 | PEOPLE

Our suppliers are an extension of our team, a crucial element in everything we do.

We don’t just search far and wide for the best capabilities and resources for our collections; we seek partners who resonate with our values. Once we find them, we’re committed to fostering direct, long-lasting and collaborative relationships that bring our collections to life.

A core part of our ethos is the fair and respectful treatment of people across every part of our supply chain. To uphold this commitment, we proudly stand as members of both the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and SEDEX.

The ETI is a powerful force driving long-term change and worker empowerment across the globe. Since becoming a member in 2022, we've adopted their internationally recognised base code of labour standards as the foundation of our own code of conduct, particularly focusing on protecting workers’ rights. Our internal teams undergo responsible purchasing practice training by the ETI, ensuring our sourcing methods remain ethical, fair, and transparent.

Our SEDEX membership further reinforces our commitment to responsible supply chain management, enabling us to engage in global auditing programs that provide both insight and accountability. All ME+EM suppliers are required to undergo regular social audits by independent organisations, and we actively encourage SEDEX membership for all our direct suppliers.

We’re also proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer for our ME+EM employees, ensuring fair pay across the board.

With a truly global footprint, we are investing in cutting-edge technology to map and enhance transparency across our supply chains. Our goal is to empower both our partners and our customers with the clarity and traceability they deserve.

3 | PLANET

We recognise that our operations have an environmental footprint - and we’re committed to doing something about it.

In 2024, we launched an ambitious partnership with sustainability consultants Seismic to measure our carbon emissions across the entire business. This marks a major step in strategically managing and reducing our impact.

As a result, we’ve set a science-based target for our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions - those we directly control - aligned with the Paris Climate Pathway to Net Zero.

Beyond our immediate footprint, we’re taking action on Scope 3 emissions, which largely stem from the materials we use and our manufacturing partners. We’re increasing the use of lower-impact, certified materials and working closely with our suppliers to encourage renewable energy adoption across their facilities..

To track our progress, we use the carbon reporting platform Plan A, which provides full visibility of our emissions and helps us take targeted action where it matters most.

Within our own operations, we’ve set internal freight targets to minimise environmental impact—prioritising road and sea transport, while reducing air shipments wherever possible. We also collaborate with external freight providers that share our Net Zero ambitions.

In 2024, we were proud to contribute to the British Fashion Council’s Low Carbon Transition Programme, partially funded by the UK Government, supporting collective efforts to decarbonise the fashion industry and drive meaningful change.

5 | POSITIVE LUXURY

In 2025 we were proud to be awarded The Butterfly Mark by Positive Luxury as a symbol of the Real Changemakers in luxury. It’s only ever awarded by Positive Luxury to brands that meet higher and higher standards for people and nature.

To earn the Butterfly Mark, we had to pass an expert-led, independent assessment which is built on the foundation of international agreements, global frameworks and standards, and even potential upcoming legislation. It covers all areas of sustainability: Environment, Social and Governance.

Over the course of a year we collaborated with the Positive Luxury team providing evidence of the change we’re making across a vast range of sustainability issues, including our impact on areas like climate, nature and water (Environment), our commitments to workers in our supply chains (Social), as well as how responsibly and ethically we manage our businesses (Governance). No detail is left out.  To certify we were required to achieve 50% across the three pillars and you can explore our efforts through our Connected Butterfly Mark here.

Passing the assessment is a landmark moment in our sustainability journey. But our journey is far from over. To retain the Butterfly Mark, we have to re-certify every two years. That means, as standards rise, we’re committed to continually improving our performance to meet them. From the very start of the assessment, we worked closely with Positive Luxury to improve our performance and we’ll continue to do that until we re-certify again.

The Butterfly Mark is a symbol that we stand for progress over perfection, difficult work over easy wins, and that we will never stop trying to improve.
