Styling ‘the new normal’ | As seen in Stella magazine

In Stella magazine, Fashion Director of the Telegraph, Lisa Armstrong has been thinking forward to a return to ‘normality’ – whatever that will look like. “This is probably the best opportunity in years to dabble in some self-reinvention” and “anything goes”, she says in her article ‘Could this be the end of the ‘trend’?’.

Diversity became a key part of fashion in the past 12 months as we navigated the balance between smart and casual.
Left to our own devices for a year, our wardrobes have essentially become an eclectic mix of comfortable loungewear and hopeful event pieces that never quite made it out of the door. Whether this “anything goes” diversity sticks around or the pendulum swings dramatically to either side remains to be seen, but Armstrong predicts that now we have been spoiled by comfort, this won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

“The cardigan has smartened up its act”, Armstrong says in the article. “ME+EM’s cashmere/ merino ones have structure, don’t swamp and basically do the job of a jacket”.

This provides a cosy alternative to a traditional blazer as we return to the office, possibly even with “some elasticated trousers”, suggests Armstrong. Or for a comfortable utility inspired edge, style with our Satin Slim Barrel-Leg Trouser, as featured in Stella’s fashion edit page. “Silky cargo pants are a chic and practical alternative” to a more formal “bias-cut slip skirt” it tells us, “opt for a silky black pair that will slink nicely from day to evening”, in other words, office to bar.

“After a year of wearing whatever we feel like, will there be no going back?”, wonders Armstrong. Time will tell.
