Saving Face With Makeup Artist Yae Pascoe

Winter is always an unforgiving time for our skin, but this season feels particularly harsh.
Stress and anxiety, of which we have had surplus amounts, do nothing good for skin - to stay nothing of face masks, central heating and religious hand washing.
We compelled Yae Pascoe to come to our skin’s rescue with her personal skincare routine and recommended products. Yae has been ME+EM’s go-to makeup artist since way-back-when, and her calling card is naturally radiant skin - so where she leads, we follow.
"During the colder months of the year, it’s common to experience dull, dry or sensitive skin, redness and breakouts, so now is really when you need to give your skincare routine an overhaul. These are the products I turn to to keep my face, body and even my lips hydrated and happy."
Cleanse
Be gentle when washing your skin - like treat it like you would a baby’s.
That means avoiding harsh cleansers and rinsing with lukewarm water. Always wash your face before applying makeup and before your night-time skincare routine.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser
Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser
Exfoliate
I use an exfoliant a few times a week at shower time to remove dead skin cells.
My favourite products work for all skin types - be gentle when using them and you’ll start noticing the difference in your skin’s texture with every use.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
Dermalogica Daily Microfolient
REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic
Glossier Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector
Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment
Hydrating Mask
Apply a mask a few times a week, depending on what type of face mask you are using.
If you opt for a liquid or mud mask, the best time to apply it is after showering as your pores will be open and you’ll get a deeper clean – just remember to avoid eyes and lips. An overnight mask is great for before bed.

OVERNIGHT MASKS

Face Toner

A toner prepares skin to drink up any serums, face creams and oils that you apply during your routine.
I always choose an alcohol-free toner as it will gently refresh without irritating sensitive skin or causing excessive dryness. Pour onto a cotton pad and sweep over your face and neck every day, morning and night, after cleansing and before applying your serum and moisturiser.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner
Face Serum
Serum is often lighter in texture, with more nutrients than a heavy face cream to hydrate skin to the deepest level.Applying it before your face cream also helps lock in the moisture. Use 1-2 times a week after a toner, on your face, neck and décolletage.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate
Face Cream
Your skin condition changes every day, so I recommend checking your skin in the mirror before applying any products, depending on whether it feels dehydrated, a bit more oily or a combination of both.If I use a thicker day cream, I always start by applying a thin layer first, and then add more layers where I think I need it. Apply your face cream to damp skin to lock in the moisture - if you prefer dewy look finish, you can mix it with your foundation.

Face Oil
Including a face oil as one of the last steps of your night-time skincare routine helps protect it from environmental damage, balance moisture and avoid problems such as breakouts, sensitivity and flaky skin.Personally, I don’t use an oil in the daytime to avoid looking greasy and to keep my makeup in place. Applying at night instead will keep the moisture locked in for 8 hours to give you smooth skin in the morning. Start with a few small drops and massage it onto your face, neck and décolletage using a sweeping upward motion. See how much your skin absorbs and then apply more if needed.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil
The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil
Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil
Body Cream
The best time to apply body moisturiser is immediately after showering to lock in the moisture.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
BIODERMA Atoderm Cream
Bio-Oil For Scars, Stretch Marks and Uneven Skin Tone
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps
Lip Balm
I recommend using a lip scrub 1-2 times a week.
Make sure your lips are moisturised before use and avoid using it if your lips have open cuts. You need to put on a lip balm straight away afterwards to seal in the moisture.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS
Dior Lip Sugar Scrub
NUXE Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm Rêve de Miel

And remember, drinking a lot of water is the key for hydrated, beautiful skin.
