A walk in the park

When you’re a new mum, finding pieces that are functional but that also make you feel good can be a minefield. And if you’re going to invest in pieces, you want them to work for now and later.Who better then to advise on a few key pieces than ME+EM’s very own Head of Design? Ina, pictured with son Jacomo, 9 months, gives the low-down on what she’s investing in now.
As a new mum time is tight so a wardrobe of easy-care pieces that combine well with each other is key. There’s no time for outfit changes (or even just to look in the mirror), so what I put on in the morning needs to go from playing on the floor, feeding in bed, going on a walk, cooking, bath time and more.
I don’t want to look overdressed, but also not as if I’m still in my pjs. It is very important for me now to put some nice clothes on in the morning and look put together, even if I don’t see anyone, just to cover up the exhaustion of sleepless nights and constant feeding and washing...

Italian Wool Longline Military CoatThis coat makes even the most casual outfit immediately look smart but not overdressed, so even with comfy baggy jeans, it works a treat. It’s so classic and timeless, I’m happy to invest in this now because I know I will wear it forever.
Adjustable Waist Slim Barrel-Leg Jean
I love the fit of this jean; there’s no bagging at knee, however long you play building blocks on the playmat. The light colour lifts my spirits and freshens up every outfit. I love it styled with a black boot, but I know it will look equally great with a sneaker or sandal in spring and summer.

Crinkle Voile Button Front Layering BlouseThe lightweight cotton blouse is simply the best layering piece. Looks lovely under every knit, doesn’t crease, lightweight so it doesn’t add bulk and feels supersoft against the skin. It’s also great as a stand-alone top going into spring.
Merino Cashmere Rib Vest + Snood
This is the perfect length layered on top of shirts, but also for wearing with high-waisted bottoms like our barrel-leg trousers, which are more voluminous so really need a shorter knit. It adds warmth without adding bulk on the sleeves underneath a coat - and it just looks so cool.

2-in-1 Swing Parka + Shearling HoodyThis parka is the perfect companion as weather changes. I can remove the inner lining on warm autumn days, but the technical fabric still shields against the wind and rain. Handbags are not part of my wardrobe anymore so big pockets hold all my belongings.
Alpaca Merino Jumper + Snood
This knit is a dream. Finally, a neutral colour that suits a blond and doesn’t wash me out like the usual oatmeal neutrals.

Luxe Leather Cargo TrouserThis looks smart but is super comfy with the elasticated waistband. Plus, it’s perfect for any food accidents as they can simply be wiped down. I love it with the cuff up but when it gets colder, I can simply turn them down, which makes me feel like I have two trousers as the silhouette completely changes.
